Payroll Manager
We are urgently seeking a Payroll Manager to support our client on a short term contract. The suitable candidate will be immediately available.
Role: Payroll Manager
Duration: 6 month contract
Start date: Immediately (or minimal notice period)
Location: Sydney
Salary: $100 per hour (negotiable for the right candidate)

Key responsibilities
* Manage end-to-end payroll processing (fortnightly and off-cycle runs), including data input, validation, and finalisation of payments, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, in particular payroll tax and tax withholding and super guarantee contributions.
* Accurately manage the maintenance of employee records related to payroll, including personal details, tax information, salary packaging and other relevant data, including filing of employee lifecycle documentation, updating internal systems etc.
* Design, develop, implement and manage an organisational remuneration and benefits strategy and tools that are aligned with strategic goals and supports a high-performance culture by attracting, engaging with, and rewarding talent.
* Act as the lead remuneration specialist, working with the People and Culture Operations team to analyse benchmarking data to develop recommendations for annual pay review cycles and reactive remuneration interventions as required.
* Conduct regular market research and benchmarking studies to ensure the company’s remuneration offerings remain competitive and attract and retain talent.
* Lead the annual salary review process, including budget management, benchmarking analysis, and collaboration with senior leadership to ensure equitable adjustments across teams.
* Stay up-to-date with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and guidelines.
* Continually streamline processes, implement best practices, and maintain compliance with relevant regulations and policies.
* Produce and distribute fortnightly Payroll reports and other HR management reports to relevant stakeholders, in a timely manner.
* Address and resolve any payroll discrepancies or issues and provide timely support and accurate advisory services to employees with payroll-related queries and manage Payroll inbox enquiries.
* Ensure compliance, application and operation of all Award and legislative requirements.
* Upskill the capability of the payroll team to ensure all payrolls are compliant, timely and the team are developing and engaged.
* Work closely with members of the P&C team and Finance team on operations, systems, reporting and risk mitigation projects, terminations, promotions, and salary changes.
* Assist in the development and implementation of payroll policies and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy.
* Review annual leave and long service leave estimates as required.
* Ensure workers compensation legislation awareness is up to date to inform the Insurance Manager about staff movements.
* Create and implement a standardised approach to the allocation of staff costs across the business.
Skills & Experience
* Extensive experience in end-to-end payroll processing or remuneration role.
* Strong understanding of payroll regulations and compliance requirements.
* Demonstrated experience building effective working relationships internally & externally and ability to seek relevant advice/information from appropriate people and sources.
* Experience implementing and managing payroll systems or software upgrades, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in payroll processing.
* Strong understanding and experience in market benchmarking and remuneration practices
* Experience working with different EBAs (site workers, shift workers etc).
* High-level organisation skills including well-developed priority-setting skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
* Highly developed people management skills, with experience developing and mentoring team.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make recommendations for process improvements or risk mitigation.
* High level of integrity and confidentiality.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex payroll issues clearly and effectively.
* Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll software for data analysis and reporting
Qualifications
* A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
