Due to significant growth over the course of 2024, OCU Northavon (part of the OCU Group) has a new requirement for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to be based in Taunton/Bishops Sutton.
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will play a crucial role in supporting the quantity surveying team in managing costs and contracts associated with construction projects. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of construction processes and contracts. The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will work closely with senior quantity surveyors and other stakeholders to ensure that projects are completed within budgetary constraints and to the required quality standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Cost Estimation and Budgeting:
• Assist in preparing cost estimates for projects based on architectural drawings, specifications, and other relevant information.
• Support in the preparation of project budgets, including materials, labor, and other expenses.
• Monitor project costs and provide regular updates to the quantity surveying team.
2. Tendering and Procurement:
• Assist in the tendering process, including preparing tender documents, analysing bids, and evaluating subcontractor proposals.
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing for materials and services.
• Support in negotiating contracts and agreements with suppliers and subcontractors.
3. Contract Administration:
• Assist in the preparation and administration of construction contracts, including variations, claims, and valuations.
• Monitor contract compliance and identify any discrepancies or issues that may arise.
• Assist in resolving disputes or conflicts related to contracts in collaboration with the quantity surveying team and project stakeholders.
4. Cost Control and Monitoring:
• Support in monitoring project expenditure and identifying areas where costs can be reduced or optimized.
Skills and Experience
1. Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, construction management, or a related field.
2. Previous experience in a similar role or relevant internship experience is desirable.
3. Strong understanding of contracts, procurement processes, and cost management principles.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software applications.
5. Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Ability to work effectively within a team and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
8. Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
