Summary: A Cardiovascular Perfusionist is responsible for operating machinery that temporarily takes over the functions of a patient's heart and lungs during surgical procedures. They work alongside medical teams to ensure the proper functioning of a patient's heart or circulation system. Responsibilities: Operate and monitor the heart-lung machine during surgery Administer medications, blood products, and anaesthetic agents as necessary Monitor, analyse and interpret patient data such as blood pressure, blood gases, and electrolyte levels Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, including surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and other medical staff Participate in the development and implementation of patient care plans Assist in the maintenance of perfusion equipment and supplies Follow infection control and safety procedures Keep accurate documentation of perfusion activities Participate in continuing education and professional development activities. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Perfusion Technology or a related field Certification from an accredited perfusion program Current certification from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or another recognized credentialing organization Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pharmacology Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills Ability to work well under pressure Strong communication and teamwork skills Attention to detail and excellent record-keeping abilities.
