Job Description:
Mars Australia and New Zealand is now seeking to appoint a new Payroll Manager. This role is based in our Wodonga office, or may be open to Melbourne, with regular travel.
In this critical senior role, the Payroll Manager is responsible for the strategic direction of the payroll function for Mars Australia and New Zealand together with leadership and management of the payroll accounting and operations. The role leads a team of 5 responsible for payroll preparation and processing for all business units in Australia and New Zealand.
The Payroll Manager’s remit covers over 2000 employees in a mix of weekly and fortnightly pays, so timely and accurate payroll processing and accounting for payroll transactions is crucial. You would also be also responsible for ensuring compliance to the Mars Finance Manual, payroll tax regulations, employment laws and internal controls for the payroll team.
What are we looking for?
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources or related.
* In-depth knowledge and experience of ANZ payroll calculation and processing, regulations, compliance, and best practice.
* More than 5 years’ experience in payroll, accounting, or human resources in in a complex and high-volume business and payroll function, team management experience preferred.
* Experience managing a payroll team in a complex and high-volume business and payroll function.
* Strong communication and change management skill - ability to work with and engage key internal and external stakeholders, engage and coach team members, and manage processes and change.
What will be your key responsibilities?
* Payroll Operations – Ensure high quality payroll processing, issue resolution and business continuity, acting as the point of escalation for any payroll queries.
* Talent Development and Engagement – You’ll lead a team of 5 payroll professionals, actively building their careers and development plans, while fostering a positive and continuous improvement-centred team culture.
* Strategic Direction – Providing strong leadership, change management and best practice (including systems and technology), cross-functional direction, and collaboration for the purposes of business improvement.
* Vendor Management - Ownership of the relationship with the payroll software provider and responsible for ensuring the system is stable, fit for purpose. up-to-date and able to meet business requirements.
* Accounting for Payroll - Ensure the timely and accurate accounting for salary, wage and benefit transactions.
