About the Program: Primary Care Services provides comprehensive primary health care to the Aboriginal community.The multi-disciplinary team consists of Aboriginal Health Workers and Practitioners, a Clinical Services Officer, Nurses and General Practitioners and General Practice Registrars.Services are augmented by the Oral Health (Dental) Program and a range of visiting medical specialists and allied health professionals.The PCS team liaises and works closely with Strong Mums Solid Kids, the Social and Emotional Wellbeing program and the Community Health Promotion and Education program to ensure a high standard of integrated and coordinated client care. Job Description About the Role: The primary role of the Senior Dental Assistant is and not limited to: Provide chair-side dental assistance to Dental Practitioners Prepare dental materials and equipment as required or requested by the dental practitioner Screening clients and liaising with the client and Dental Practitioner as the clients arrive Assistance in preparation of X-rays and other procedures as required Maintain infection control and sterilisation practices Maintain dental equipment in a safe and serviceable condition by performing routine maintenance and timely reporting of breakages Re-stock clinical areas, monitor stock levels and reorder as required Assist with oral health education by giving accurate instructions to clients as directed by the dental practitioner Dental area organised to ensure that the Dental Practitioner session is effectively utilised Due to the nature of this role, applicants from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background are strongly encouraged to apply. Desired Skills and Experience Selection Criteria: Essential – includes qualifications, skills, experience and knowledge Certificate III in Dental Assisting or equivalent Minimum of (3) years dental assisting experience Experience in the provision of chair-side dental assistance Knowledge of dental terminology, equipment, instruments, materials, procedures and contemporary infection control and sterilisation procedures Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, build positive relationships and work collaboratively with others Organisational skills, self-confidence and the ability to work independently and autonomously, assess priorities, organise workload and meet deadlines Proven well-developed written and verbal communication skills Ability to competently use computing software Hold a current Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Certificate Demonstrated understanding of the contemporary issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the impacts these issues have on Indigenous Australian societies and cultures; and Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people Knowledge of SA Dental Service Policies and procedures.
