About the Business Unit The Aboriginal Justice Group of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is committed to driving systemic change in the justice system, to connect, support and deliver better outcomes for the Aboriginal community. The group works in partnership with Traditional Owners and the Victorian Aboriginal community to embed the principles of self-determination in the justice sector. The Stolen Generations Reparations Unit sits within the Aboriginal Justice Group and was established in January 2022 to deliver the Stolen Generations Reparations package in Victoria. The team is committed to delivering a reparations process that is fully supported, accessible, transparent and trauma informed. About the Role As the Senior Program Officer, you will be responsible for Working with the Principal Policy Officer to develop and implement non-financial Reparations Programs (Programs) for the Stolen Generations Reparations Package. Leading the development and implementation of policies and procedures to support access to Programs, including promotion of non-financial reparations programs through community engagement activities. Facilitating effective access to Programs by working in partnership with external organisations on agreed funding and referral pathways. Developing effective relationships across the department and within the unit to design, implement and deliver key programs, as well as manage risks associated with delivery. About you To be successful in this role, you will have: Proven record of expertise and achievement in developing policies, processes and procedures in a support services or government project context. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal community, both society and culture and the issues impacting on it. Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and work effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community. Experience providing high quality, strategic, influential and evidence-based advice to inform decision-making. Qualifications/requirements A relevant qualification from a recognised tertiary institution is desired. Experience working in redress schemes, social policy, law or legal policy will be well-regarded. Cultural safety training and training in trauma-informed care is highly desirable.
