About the Role
An exciting opportunity is available within the Student Equity and Disability Services Team (SEDS) at the University of Melbourne for a senior equity role Help students requiring academic adjustments participate equitably in their educational pursuits. Be a key part of a student-centric environment promoting independence and active participation in studies.
Your responsibilities will include:
3. Working closely with Equity and Disability Advisers in SEDS, Safer Community, Exams team, and Faculties ensuring a holistic approach to address equity registered student needs at the university.
4. Provision of advice to improve inclusive practice consistent with legislation and educational standards and best practices,
5. Reviewing applications and supporting documentation to determine eligibility for ongoing support.
6. Developing and assisting in the implementation of Academic Adjustment Plans for students so they may equitably participate in educational pursuits including case management and outreach.
7. Facilitation of the appropriate referral of students to support services both within and external to the University
8. Proactive outreach to students to book appointments and follow up on equity-related experiences
9. Project work encompassing current disability and equity best practices and implementation of the Disability Action Plan (DIAP)
Who we are looking for
The ideal candidate will have skills and knowledge for facilitating students to achieve their academic goals. You should have a high standard of both technical and people skills, as the role will need organisation and analysis as well as knowledge of relevant legislation and emotional intelligence working with diverse stakeholders. You will be able to work well under pressure as part of a small team.
You will also have:
10. A relevant tertiary qualification such as accredited social work degree with eligibility for membership of the AASW, disability, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and educational training, ideally in the disability field and tertiary education sectors.
11. Experience in providing wrap-around services to people with mental health conditions or disabilities.
12. Excellent communication skills (oral, written, interpersonal) and ability to establish rapport with colleagues in a large complex organisation.
13. Knowledge and understanding and experience of working with relevant Commonwealth and State legislation, particularly the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Commonwealth) and the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Victoria) and University policy.

Student and Scholarly Services provides student administration and services from recruitment and point of enquiry to graduation. This team also delivers well-being and scholarly services to students and staff.
The Student Equity and Disability Services (SEDS) is in the Wellbeing Services portfolio, which includes the University’s Health Service, Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS), and the Chaplaincy service. SEDS under the authority of the Academic Registrar processes eligibility for Special consideration applications and responsibility for providing educational adjustments for students with a disability or health condition, are carers of a person with a disability, are defense reservists or emergency volunteers, or for cultural or religious observance which impacts their ability to participate fully in their studies.
