As a per diem surgical processing department (SPD) technician, you will work with the surgical center team.
Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining the surgical instrumentation for the center by decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization procedures.
The person in this role must practice proper aseptic technique, have the ability to multi-task, and report any concerns to the Director of Nursing / Administrator.
*** This is a per diem position that will end up being part time as the surgery center gets built up *** *There will be four shifts per month to start: every Wednesday and fourth Friday of each month.
This position reports to the Charge RN per shift and the ASC Administrator.
Essential Responsibilities: Assists with ensuring the center is properly prepared for the daily schedule.Maintains adequate inventory of supplies related to the SPD department and follows procedure for notification of shortages and reordering.Preparation of supplies.Sterilization of equipment and instruments according to MIFU.Assists in cleaning the surgical suite between cases.Opens sterile packs, instruments, and supplies, ensuring a sterile environment is maintained throughout the process.Prepares for the set-up of all surgical cases and assists in cleaning the room after cases.Cleans the instruments by following appropriate protocol for decontamination.Wraps and sterilizes the instruments appropriately.Reports any issues with the instruments, possible contamination, or issues with sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaner, or flush.Reports and troubleshoots broken or defective supplies, instruments, or equipment.Checks supplies and assists in restocking the center.Organizes supplies and equipment in an efficient manner.Verifies the surgeon's preference card is current and accessible.Maintains all aspects of infection control protocol.Takes an active role in identifying issues for quality improvement and infection control.Always follows the center's policies and procedures.Works as an integral member of the team.Reports issues to management promptly.Serves on committees as requested.Maintains BLS certification.Learns the MIFUs for each new instrument or equipment brought into the center and ensures its addition is configured into the protocols for cleaning and sterilization of the trays.Qualifications & Requirements: Certification in Sterile Processing preferred.Minimum 2 years of experience in a sterile processing department as a technician.Knowledge of the sterilization process, aseptic technique, care of instrumentation, and the ability to follow manufacturer's instructions for use (MIFU).
