Interested in joining an organisation at the forefront of agvet chemical regulation in Australia?The APVMA’s Risk Assessment Capability is seeking applications for a Director Efficacy and Safety to lead the development on guidance material for a range of veterinary medicines in consultation with external experts.Located in either Canberra ACT or regional Armidale NSW, you will gain experience in the Australian Public Service, have access to a variety of flexible working arrangements, and play a key role in ensuring that agvet products are fit for purpose and in line with Australian statutory criteria.The RoleThe Director Efficacy and Safety will manage the evaluation of data undertaken by themselves, staff, other officers. They will also manage relationships with external service providers, internal and external clients, and other stakeholders.The following core functions will also be assigned to the Director:Provide high level technical advice on efficacy and target species safety matters relating to the regulation of agvet chemical products, with a particular focus on veterinary medicines.Coach, mentor and develop technical capacity within the APVMA to build a greater understanding of efficacy and target safety risk assessments.Facilitate cooperation and partnerships with external service providers on efficacy and target safety assessments.Identify gaps in efficacy expertise and recruit external service providers to fill those gaps.Conduct specific assessments based on individual expertise, provide specialist advice regarding assessments, provide specialist advice regarding suitable external service providers for assessments, and provide quality oversight of reports considering APVMA principles of regulatory science quality and relevant international best practices.Be responsible for ensuring that guidelines and guidance documents relating to efficacy and target safety are contemporary and reflect international best practice.Prepare high-level written material incorporating scientific/technical considerations into briefs to decision makers, ministerial correspondence and other corporate documents as required.QualificationsTo be a strong contender for the role, you will have:Demonstrated high-level experience and analytical skills in efficacy and target species safety assessment, preferably in the context of a regulatory environment.Ability to solve problems, show judgement, pay attention to detail and make decisions based on sound science and risk analysis.Highly developed interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication, liaison and negotiation skills.Highly developed leadership and management skills that demonstrate a commitment to coaching and developing staff.Knowledge of the regulatory and legislative environment of the APVMA. Familiarity with international best practices related to preparing high quality risk assessments for efficacy and target species safety of agricultural and veterinary chemicals.Demonstrated ability to develop, manage and implement policy and program initiatives within a section or specialist area.At the APVMA, we value your skills and potential.
