As we continue to grow, so too does our team. We are looking for the right candidate to take on the role of Senior Naval Architect. This is a Full-Time role, based in our Port Macquarie office on the beautiful Hastings River in Port Macquarie, NSW.
The Senior Naval Architect will be responsible for input into key engineering design decisions, review and approval of engineering design packages, mentoring of junior Naval Architects and provision of technical guidance on ship build production process.
Key Accountabilities
1. Naval Architecture – Stability, Structural Analysis, Resistance and Powering
2. Contributing, participating and where appropriate leading an engineering team through the ship build design process from requirements definition and review, preliminary and detailed design, production implementation and test & acceptance phases.
3. Review and approval of engineering design packages, within delegated engineering authority
4. Systems Engineering and Integration
5. Weight tracking & control
6. CAD Drawings
7. Customer liaison and internal design meetings and reporting
8. Mentoring Junior Naval Architects and Engineers
9. Development of QA documentation
10. Manual Writing
11. Proactively promoting quality, environmental responsibility & safety within the workplace, encouraging an outcome of Birdon being a place of work by choice.
12. Actively participating in the continued growth of the business
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
1. Tertiary qualifications at degree level in a relevant engineering discipline.
2. 10 years’ experience in leading teams for an engineering organization in a relevant industry.
3. Highly proficient in CAD programs, efficient technical drawing and drafting skills
4. Proactive manner demonstrating strong technical aptitude and interpersonal skills
5. Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office software
6. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, identify work priorities in a constantly changing environment.
7. Previous experience building capability and systems in a team and a developing organisation.
8. Chartered Professional Engineering status in relevant discipline.
9. Marine or Mechanical focus specific degrees highly desirable.
10. Knowledge of marine engineering and design principles, systems, techniques, and industry standards. Experience in Defence contracting preferred.
11. Ability to develop technical documents, technical manuals, and drawings.
12. Understanding of military and government project documentation standards
