Central Gippsland Health (CGH) is a sub-regional health service and the major provider of health and aged care services in the Wellington Shire. CGH is located in the City of Sale which is 215 km east of Melbourne. The City of Sale is an ideal access point for the magnificent Gippsland Lakes, 90 Mile Beach and the Victorian Alps.
CGH provides acute care as part of an integrated service delivery model across Wellington Shire and beyond. The service provides beds across three campuses (Sale, Maffra and Heyfield). Acute services include a full-time emergency department, critical care unit, neonatal critical care unit, three operating theatres, day procedure unit, oncology and dialysis services in addition to general medical and services and sub-acute services including rehabilitation.
CGH is also a leading teaching hospital, affiliated with Monash University's School of Rural Health and provides placements and clinical experience for students.
About Department
The sterilisation department and CSSD staff assist the perioperative environment to provide extensive services to the community. This includes general surgery, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, and many other specialties. The CSSD department also provides external services to local GP clinics, dental clinics and other clinics in the community.
About the Role
The Instrument Technician Grade 4 is responsible for the collection, cleaning, and decontamination of reusable critical and semi-critical medical equipment used by the operating suite and clinical units. Key duties include loading and unloading ultrasonic instruments, washers, dryers, and sterilizers according to instructions and general duties lists.
The role involves packaging instruments as per manufacturer's instructions and department policies, as well as preparing, checking, and packaging instruments, including loan sets, for sterilization. The technician may also undertake additional tasks as directed by the Perioperative Services Unit Manager.

* Work within the framework of the National Standards, and within the framework of ACORN and GENCA.
* Ensure risk management activities are completed, effective controls are in place and incidents are recorded, investigated and corrective actions implemented as far as is reasonably practical.
* Excellent teamwork skills with ability to work collaboratively within a busy team with changing priorities and work demands.
* Outstanding customer service skills with ability to build close working relationships within the CSSD team, the operating theatres and other key areas.
* High level of understanding of OHS, with good manual handling techniques and basic level chemical safety within the sterilising services.
* Create a psychologically safe work environment where everyone feels safe to speak up.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
* Candidate will hold a Certificate IV in Sterilisation Services for technicians or equivalent from a registered training organization and have 12 months of experience as an Instrument Technician.
* They should be capable of working independently with minimal supervision and be willing to undergo orientation and training in all areas of the CSSD, including decontamination, packing, wrap, steri peel, steam sterilization, sterile store, and other specialty equipment within the hospital.
* The successful applicant will demonstrate a high level of attention to detail, adaptability, and commitment to maintaining strict hygiene and safety standards.
