The Opportunity We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Mine Geologist to join our team. The successful candidate will support the geological team in the development and production of our open-pit mining operations. This role involves hands-on work and collaboration with various departments to ensure efficient and safe mining practices. Reporting to the Geology Superintendent, the Senior Mine Geologist will be responsible for leading the mine geology team at Karlawinda open pit, guiding and mentoring the next graduate/mine geologists, monitoring and managing grade control practices.
Other responsibilities include: Provide geological guidance and support during drill and blast operations to ensure optimal fragmentation and ore recovery.Conduct geological mapping, sampling, and interpretation to aid mine planning and production activities.Collaborate with mine engineering and operations teams to develop short and long-term mine plans that maximise ore recovery and minimise dilution.Monitor ore grade control processes and implement strategies to maintain grade quality and optimise mill feed.Conduct regular geological audits and reviews to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in mining practices.Mentor and guide junior geologists and technicians.Ore and geological interpretation/wireframing incorporating drilling and mapping results.Assist Geology Superintendent in delegation of tasks when and where required.Ensure compliance with CMM safety policies, The Work Health and Safety Act 2020, and the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 as well as other appropriate legislation.Ad-hoc projects and duties, as required.ABOUT YOU To be considered for the role, you will have the following qualifications, skills, and experience:
Bachelor's degree in Geology or a related field.Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in production open-pit mining, with a focus on gold deposits.Strong understanding of geological modeling software Surpac.Experience with grade control, ore reconciliation, and resource estimation.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.Demonstrated leadership abilities and a track record of delivering results in a fast-paced operational environment.Commitment to safety, the environment, and ethical conduct.Ability to work effectively in both field and office environments.Offroad/4WD experience is preferred, with certification or course completion looked upon favourably.This is an exciting opportunity to impact the direction of growth projects and is offered as a 2:1 FIFO from Perth roster position.
