Role: Project Manager
Company: Canyon Solar Structures Pty Ltd
Industry: Energy, Construction, Manufacturing
Employment: Full-time
Location: Southern Highlands, NSW, with opportunity to work remotely (NSW).
Who are we?
Canyon Solar’s mission is to rapidly decarbonise the planet by transforming commercial car parks into renewable energy and electric vehicle charging hubs. Our vision is a sustainable planet where individuals and companies have access to affordable, reliable, zero emissions energy.
At our heart, we are a technology company that operates in the renewable energy, manufacturing and construction sectors. We have developed the world’s first modular solar canopy system. Our modular system is 3x faster to install and 20% lower cost than competing systems, which allows us to be competitive with traditional shade structures. This unlocks a 4 GW market to install solar PV in commercial car parks, worth an estimated $12 billion in Australia alone.
Canyon Solar is entering a high growth phase as we transition from a startup to a scale-up. For 2025, we are focused on executing existing projects, growing a pipeline of new opportunities and structuring the business for growth. This role provides an exciting opportunity to grow with the company as we look to build a world class team.
Responsibilities:
The Project Manager will work within our delivery team, and will work closely with the sales, development, production, and site teams. They will directly contribute to and influence the success and overall growth of the company.
The Project Manager will be primarily responsible for the delivery of portfolio projects, with involvement in internal capex projects. Specific responsibilities include:
1. Project management from start to finish: With engagement in a project during contract negotiation, the project manager will take the lead in managing a project from the signing of the contract to the project completion. Our projects typically take 4 months from start to finish - long enough to get stuck in, but short enough to see the results of your work in real time.
2. Manage budgets: Working closely with procurement, the project manager will manage the budget across the lifecycle, and take initiative in identifying cost issues, and/or developing and implementing measures to improve current and future budgets.
3. Coordinate the delivery of our projects: In collaboration across the teams, the project manager will develop and manage project timelines and communicate regularly with development, production and site teams to ensure the timely delivery of projects.
4. Manage relationships: The project manager is the main point of contact with our customers, as well as many suppliers, subcontractors and other stakeholders. The project manager will build relationships with these stakeholders, manage expectations and communicate regularly, and drive repeat business and partnerships.
5. Safety: Working with the site lead, the project manager will ensure safety policies and procedures are current and being followed across projects. This may include drafting safety documentation, and construction management / traffic management plans in consultation with the site team.
6. Knowledge sharing & continuous improvement: We value continuous improvement. With oversight of the project from start to finish, the project manager provides valuable contributions by communicating lessons learned to team members to support product innovation and quality management.
Our ideal candidate can be based in the Southern Highlands, where they can embed themselves within the production and site teams. However, there is opportunity for some work to be completed remotely, with some travel in NSW and interstate.
We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate that they:
1. are detail-oriented, practical, and organised.
2. show initiative, learn quickly, and take ownership of their work.
3. have excellent soft skills, including communication skills, teamwork, time management and critical thinking.
4. work well under pressure, demonstrate resilience to overcome challenges and apply a methodical approach to problem solving.
5. are responsible, trustworthy and dependable team members that complete duties to a high standard.
6. are passionate about Canyon Solar’s mission, have a positive attitude and keen to learn.
Previous experience in project management, construction, engineering or renewable energy will be beneficial and give you an excellent foundation for success. However, we are open to applicants who come from different career backgrounds who demonstrate skills and experience that are transferable into a project management role.
1. Excellent computer literacy, including familiarity with different software and/or the ability to quickly learn new software systems. This includes proficiency in the Microsoft suite (including Excel).
2. Drivers Licence
