Lawyer About the team Located in the Strategy, People and Performance Department, the General Counsel Branch provides legal advice to the Mayor, Councillors, CEO, Executive General Managers, Managers, Officers, and employees on all issues that may arise while Council is carrying out its responsibilities and powers as a local government. About your new role This appointment will be responsible for assisting with delivery of high level professional advice on all aspects of local government law, with a focus on commercial, property and administrative law. Areas of core responsibility vary based on level of experience, but ideally include (among other duties): Drafting and negotiating all types of commercial contracts and agreements including works contracts, sponsorship agreements, leases and licences Asset and property acquisitions and disposals Intellectual property registrations and licensing Procurement and probity advice Administrative law and governance matters Assisting with the delivery of legal training to staff Engaging and instructing external panel firms, as required The City has undergone a performance and cultural transformation. Some of the required skills and experiences to be successful in this role: Between 1-5 years PAE in commercial, property and administrative law, ideally within a busy and highly regarded in-house environment or within a leading mid/top tier firm Ideally prior experience advising public sector entities Strong communication skills and experience dealing directly with clients A high degree of technical ability Superior time management skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities Ability to work independently, while being a team player, and be proactive with an excellent work ethic Strong team orientation and a collaborative approach Be part of shaping the Gold Coast's future The Gold Coast is inspired by lifestyle and driven by opportunity.
