You’ll be joining a motivated and high-performing analytics team who:
* Have a defined remit to develop and deliver high-value analytics use cases for DCS and its leaders
* Are trusted advisors to the executive leadership team, with proven strategic and analytical expertise and a track record of delivering impactful budget, people and regulatory outcomes for the Department
* Have an established reputation, strong executive presence and play a key role in influencing business decisions and direction through analytics
* Own, maintain and develop several critical reporting solutions for the Department and its external partner agencies
* Strive to create value and drive business outcomes through every data point, insight and solution we produce
Your responsibilities will be to:
* Translate complex business problems into advanced analytical models and predictive tools that drive value for DCS and the State.
* Develop statistical models and machine learning algorithms that not only answer key questions but also drive action and measurable impact.
* Apply machine learning techniques to enhance predictive capabilities and build advanced analytical engines.
* Architect and optimise data pipelines for predictive analytics, business intelligence, and visualisation.
* Analyse large, complex datasets to uncover trends, identify patterns, and inform executive decision-making.
* Convert raw business data into meaningful performance measures and KPIs for senior stakeholders.
* Stay informed of emerging technologies and industry best practices, and apply them to improve in-house analytical solutions.
* Collaborate with fellow developers to design, build, test, and deploy technical solutions.
* Conduct code peer reviews to maintain code quality, consistency, and best practices.

* Have demonstrated, real-world experience in data science, advanced analytics, or machine learning engineering.
* Can translate complex technical concepts into business-friendly insights for senior stakeholders.
* Have strong, hypothesis-driven problem-solving skills with the ability to recommend fit-for-purpose models, methodologies, and technologies.
* Can build, validate, and deploy ML models while ensuring performance, interpretability, and explainability.
* Have deep understanding of best practices in analytics, statistical modelling, and machine learning applications.
* Have experience working in cross-functional teams, including data engineers, analysts, and business leaders.
* Are experienced in data storytelling and presenting analytical insights in a compelling and impactful way.
* Can distil complex technical challenges into simple, achievable solutions and milestones.
* Approach every challenge with an open and solution-oriented mindset.
* Have tertiary qualifications in computer science, data science, information technology, mathematics, statistics or a related field.
…and can demonstrate the following technical skills and qualifications:
* Expertise in Python (advanced ML libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and SQL (advanced queries, performance tuning, functions) for data manipulation and modelling.
* Strong knowledge of machine learning, statistical modelling, and predictive analytics.
* Proficiency in building and optimising data pipelines to support machine learning and analytical workflows.
* Understanding of feature engineering, data preprocessing, and model deployment techniques.
* Hands-on experience with Power BI for data visualisation and reporting.
* Familiarity with SAP Business Warehouse (SAP BW) and working with SAP data structures.
* Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric and cloud-based data platforms.
* Familiarity with version control and CI/CD pipelines for data workflows.
* Strong grasp of data governance, data quality, and security best practices.
Salary Grade 9/10, with the base salary for this role starting at $125,693 base plus superannuation.
