The Royal Hobart Hospital is the State’s tertiary referral centre and is also the primary teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine. Salary
A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
Classification
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 to Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 in accordance with the Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019
1. Access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Levels 1, 2 and 3 as described in the Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award.
2. A new wages agreement has been agreed and is currently being registered in the Tasmanian Industrial Commission. The new rates apply to this position and are effective from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2023.

Permanent full-time day work (with on-call) working up to 76 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible.

Duties
3. Patient Care:
4. Medical care of patients.
5. Undertake procedures as required in the area of practice.
6. Participate in after hours on call roster.
7. Teaching:
8. Undertake undergraduate clinical teaching.
9. Provide supervision and training of post graduate trainees.
10. Research:
11. Maintain involvement in research activities.
12. Administrative and Quality Improvement:
13. Provide administrative and quality improvement functions for units as required
14. Work closely with corresponding nursing staff and support staff in the area of practice.
Essential Requirements
15. Be registered or be eligible for registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as Specialist Cardiothoracic Surgeon
16. Hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons with a recognised speciality field of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery
17. Be available for weekend and after-hours work
18. Experience in both Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery
19. Hold a current driver’s license .
20. Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)
Desirable
21. Strong clinical skills in minimally invasive Thoracic and Cardiac surgery
22. We will also expect senior specialist to have demonstrated advanced clinical experience outlined in a CV that clearly and comprehensively outlines the applicant’s professional history.
23. Be able to demonstrate their ability to undertake duties and responsibilities deemed by THS as those expected of a Senior Specialists.
24. Have demonstrated their advanced ability to provide leadership to their colleagues through either clinical or administrative means.
