This position reports directly to the Material Handling Support Supervisor, as well as the Senior Manager, Research Facilities and Infrastructure, UQ Biological Resources (UQBR)/Translational Research Institute. This role involves a significant proportion of physical tasks involving lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying heavy equipment and supplies. The primary purpose of the role is to undertake cage cleaning, equipment processing and waste management activities within the UQBR BRF/TRI Animal Facility. The position is also required to undertake material handling procedures, adhere to regulations and policies, and work within a team environment. Key responsibilities will include: Follow PPE requirements for the area and any specific task being carried out. Perform cage cleaning, sterilization, and general maintenance tasks to ensure a clean and safe environment within the Research, Breeding and Gnotobiotic areas. Perform quality control practices related to equipment operation, material processing, productivity, and biosecurity in the cage wash areas. Adhere to waste disposal practices, ensuring that all goods are disposed of safely and according to standard procedures. Liaise with stores personnel to oversee food, bedding and general supply receipt and distribution. Perform stocktakes of feed and bedding to ensure reasonable stocks are maintained to prevent wastage or low stock. Assist with ordering of necessary supplies and consumables. Perform basic animal care and husbandry duties if required (with training and supervision), for up to approximately 10 percent of the time. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Meticulous and organized approach to work. Understanding of WHS, OGTR, and DAWE Biosecurity regulations. Strong communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.
