Who we are
NORSTA Maritime is the Regional Maintenance Provider for the Regional Maintenance Centre North-East, delivering project management capabilities, technical expertise and quality assurance activities for the Royal Australian Navy fleet.
Our advanced maritime sustainment planning coordinates fleet maintenance at scale across Far North Queensland, including Northern Australia and adjacent waters for the Commonwealth of Australia.
Due to demand for our services, we are expanding rapidly and developing further capacity for more vessel platforms.
NOTE: Due to NORSTA Maritime's position as a Department of Defence contractor, we require all employees to be Australian citizens and able to hold a minimum Baseline Security Clearance with the ability to obtain access passes to HMAS Cairns and Cairns-based shipyards.
About you
You are enthusiastic and passionate about making your mark in the world of occupational health and safety. You may be a recent graduate or about to finish tertiary education in a related field and looking for the right professional environment where you can thrive. Working with an experienced and supportive team is important to you, where you may be able to receive coaching, mentoring and feedback to assist in your professional development. You are exceptionally structured and organised, highly familiar with most MS Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel. You have demonstrated experience in administrative processes and have a meticulous eye for detail and tracking items. You are an engaging person able to connect with a wide range of stakeholders. You would be able to assist in developing and ensure training delivery. You are tech savvy and able to see the potential to save lives through safety apps and AI.
About the role
The HSE & Training Officer will be required to assist in development, maintenance and promotion of NORSTA approved Health, Safety, Environment and Training systems, processes and practices within the workplace and administrative support to the HSE Department and other departments from time to time.
Some (but not all) key responsibilities:
* Coordinate and facilitate HSE Learning and Development in line with business needs.
* Coordinate internal and external training programs, including site inspections and appraisals.
* Collaborate with Department Heads and HR to identify training needs and develop training materials.
* Monitor the effectiveness of training programs and support the development of departmental trainers.
* Liaise with external partners to enhance training opportunities.
* Assist development of the annual Training Business Plan and Budget.
* Assist project sites to demonstrate visible leadership and apply knowledge to reduce HSET risk and prevent injury and illness.
Essential experience: Minimum 1 year's experience in HSE/WHS/OH & S role or administrative role with training and HSE experience. It would be desirable to have experience in marine and shipyard operations, a Defence background or experience in either engineering, aviation, construction and maintenance industries.
