The Opportunity
MIGAS Apprentices & Trainees in partnership with Dartbrook Mine are currently recruiting for 2 Mechanical Fitter Apprentices for a January 2025 start.
We are looking for candidates who want to kickstart their career in the Underground coal mine industry in the Hunter Valley.
At the completion of the apprenticeship, you will become a qualified Mechanical Fitter and earn a nationally accredited qualification, MEM30219 Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade.
Job Details
Dartbrook mine is located in the Hunter Valley approximately 4km west of Aberdeen and 10km north-west of Muswellbrook. The mine has recently been restarted after being in care and maintenance since its closure of operations in 2006.
Your main responsibilities will include performing planned and breakdown maintenance on equipment potentially including amongst others conveyor belts, gear boxes, coal handling screens and centrifuges as well as installation of new equipment and machining work.
You will be working a 12-hour shift from 6am to 6pm with a roster of either 7/7 or 4/3.

About You
We are looking for candidates who are motivated, have good problem-solving skills and are dedicated to both learning and growing within this industry.
If you have a Certificate II level pre-vocational qualification in the engineering field or have some related work experience this will be highly regarded.
Other requirements will include:
* Maintaining a high-level focus on safety and the environment, following all Dartbrook safety processes and procedures
* Working collaboratively in designated teams
* Completing tasks to the highest quality following instructions of supervising tradespeople
* Comfortable working in a physically demanding underground environment
* Possess a strong mechanical aptitude
* Committing to the completion of the qualification, submitting assessments as required and attending all allocated shifts
* Ability to confidently communicate in an effective manner
* You must have reliable transport to and from work and preferably hold a current driver’s licence with P Plate minimum
* Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Medical, Drug and Alcohol Screen, and Police Check
