Work Arrangement: Hybrid working (WFH 2-3 days in Paramatta Office) PURPOSE OF THE ROLE You will support the optimal financial functioning of the State’s disaster expenditure funding by conducting financial assurance and auditing of expenditure incurred by state government agencies and local councils. This role is critical in ensuring the eligibility of agency reimbursement claims against the State’s Disaster Relief Account and the State’s claim to the Commonwealth. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Operate a risk-based assurance function to verify that expenditure claims made by agencies meet the eligibility criteria outlined in relevant guidelines. Conduct audits and reviews of agency expenditure records and internal control structures, ensuring compliance with Australian Government requirements. Collaborate with the finance team to ensure Natural Disaster Arrangement financial management practices align with best practices, are efficient and effective, and support business objectives. Liaise and provide expert advice to NSW Government staff, other state entities, and the Commonwealth Government on natural disaster expenditure assurance and financial queries. Ensure financial data accuracy by maintaining an effective financial management function, reconciling natural disaster expenditure information with NSW Government agencies' underlying accounting records. Prepare accurate and timely reports (monthly, quarterly, and annual) in accordance with legislative requirements. Apply sound project management methodologies to all projects, ensuring deliverables meet agreed deadlines and quality standards. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA Strong knowledge of auditing and accounting standards, with hands-on experience in acquittals and financial reporting. Ability to assess and verify audit processes, ensuring that expenditure claims made by NSW Government agencies meet all relevant guidelines and agreements.
