The Primary School Librarian will manage and oversee the school library, ensuring that students and staff have access to a wide variety of resources for reading, research, and learning. The Librarian will foster a love of reading and support the school curriculum through the integration of library services into classroom activities.
Responsibilities/Duties: Organise, maintain, and catalogue library resources including books, multimedia, and digital resources. Develop and implement library policies and procedures. Support the Teacher Librarian to manage the library budget and order new materials as needed. Promote a love of reading through book talks, reading programs, and library events. Assist students in selecting appropriate reading materials. Support regular library classes to teach students about library resources and research skills. Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into the curriculum. Provide resources and support for classroom projects and assignments. Conduct professional development sessions for staff on the use of library resources and technology. Manage and support the use of technology within the library. Assist students and staff with digital literacy skills. Stay current with emerging technologies and integrate them into the library program. Foster a welcoming and inclusive library environment for all students and staff. Develop partnerships with local libraries and community organisations. Maintain accurate records of library inventory and circulation. Prepare reports on library usage or events and its effectiveness. Selection Criteria: Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Education, or a related field. Recent graduates with relevant qualifications are encouraged to apply. Enjoy working with children in an educational setting. Strong knowledge of children's literature and educational resources. Proficiency in library management software and educational technology. Excellent organisational skills to manage library resources and programs. Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with students, staff, and parents. Ability to collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into the curriculum. Passion for promoting literacy and fostering a love of reading among young students. Commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming library environment. Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) or Library and Information Science. Additional certifications in educational technology or related fields. Experience in managing a school library or working in a primary school setting. Experience with digital literacy programs and technology integration in education. Experience in developing and implementing reading programs and library events. Experience in conducting professional development sessions for staff on library resources and technology use.
