As a Peer Worker (Family and Friends) at headspace Hamilton, you will use your lived experience to empower families to support young people and foster mental wellbeing.
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate individual who wants to make a difference for families and friends supporting young people with mental health needs. In this rewarding role, you will provide short-term, family-inclusive support to families and friends of young people aged 12 to 25, helping them build the knowledge and skills needed to promote mental wellbeing and resilience.
You will deliver individual and group supports, offer guidance on navigating digital resources, and foster connections to other services, all while acting as a positive and empathetic role model. This role is an opportunity to champion family-inclusive practices across our multidisciplinary team, establish family reference groups, and represent the voice of families and friends in our broader network.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide short-term, family-inclusive support to families and friends of young people aged 12 to 25
* Deliver individual and group supports
* Offer guidance on navigating digital resources
* Foster connections to other services
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* Lived experience as a family member or friend who has supported a young person through their recovery journey, including mental health, physical health, alcohol and other drugs, and/or work and study
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of people, families, and stakeholders
* A broad understanding of the differing perspectives of the impact of mental health difficulties on families and friends
* An interest and passion in the mental health and well-being of young people and their family and friends
