Southern Cross Care has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Chef to join our SCC family at Aruma Lodge Residential Aged Care Home in Broken Hill This is permanent part-time role with a guaranteed minimum 60 hours per fortnight.

About the role
In this rewarding role you will assist in the planning and preparation of nutritious and high-quality meals for our residents in accordance with the Food Safety Program requirements. Working as part of a talented Hospitality team, you will enhance the dining experience of our residents by sharing your culinary skills and championing our values to meet our mission of supporting people in their choice of health, wellbeing and lifestyle. Your role as a chef will contribute greatly to enhancing the lives of our residents by ensuring appetizing and nutritious meals are provided, promoting a positive and enjoyable dining experience for all.
What are the key responsibilities?
Duties may include but not be limited to:
* Food handling, preparation and cooking of meals
* Cooking and presentation of food and ensuring on time delivery of quality meals
* Basic record keeping (e.g. number of meals per day, missed meals) in consultation with the Chief Cook
* Stock control, ordering (eg food, cleaning products), receiving, checking, weighing and storing
* Ensure kitchen and equipment is maintained in a safe, hygienic and tidy manner
What you will bring to the role?
* Certificate III or above in Cookery (desirable)
* Experience working in Aged Care/Hospital commercial kitchen (desired)
* Experience in a hygiene-controlled environment
* Monitoring and handling of food and equipment experience
* Aged Care Quality and Food Safety Standards knowledge and experience
* Demonstrated Leadership and interpersonal skills
* Time, task and priority management
* Competent in using computer systems

Southern Cross Care (SCC) is a Catholic not-for-profit organisation established by the Knights of the Southern Cross, more than 40 years ago. They saw a need to provide compassionate care and inclusive service to some of the most vulnerable, the ageing population, in the community.
Since then, SCC has grown to employ over 1300 staff caring for and supporting more than 2000 people across 13 residential aged care homes, 5 retirement villages, 28 social houses, the National Disability and Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and home care services in metropolitan and rural Queensland. From July 1st, 2024, Southern Cross Care QLD has committed to helping Southern Cross Care Broken Hill manage all their services.
