Applications are invited for the position of Head of Department Literacy (0.4 FTE) to join Bellbird Park State Secondary College.
The HOD Literacy role will be instrumental in driving a whole-school approach to literacy, including embedding literacy strategies into all curriculum areas, thus supporting teachers to implement differentiated practices that cater to the diverse student body at BPSSC.
The HOD Literacy role also includes a 0.6 FTE teaching load.

Bellbird Park State Secondary College is one of Queensland's newest secondary schools. The school opened in January 2017 for year 7 students only and our inaugural year 12 cohort graduated in 2022. About the Role
As the Head of Department - Literacy you will focus on:
* Lead the implementation of explicit writing instruction, with a focus on Writer's Toolbox (WT) strategies, in all classrooms across the college.
* Organise WT PD days for staff including coaching days to contribute to the strategic direction of writing improvement in the curriculum at the college.
* Oversee the year 7-9 Big Write program and monitor and support staff in the implementation of the program.
* Maintain the implementation of explicit Reading for Learning in all classrooms across the college.
* Act as a specialist adviser, offering advice and professional development to teachers and Heads of Department about how to maintain momentum and create growth in students in reading and writing.
* Liaise with HODs to continue the integration of writing strategies and cognitive verbs in the curriculum.
* Mentor and support Faculty Literacy Leaders.
* Deliver coaching sessions in classrooms and faculties to develop teacher capability with literacy initiatives.
* Lead the implementation of literacy strategies (reading and writing) through staff meetings, faculty meetings and CLC presentations.
* Coordinate NAPLAN preparation program for literacy strands.
* Support English staff with the implementation of classroom libraries in year 7-8.
