Selection Criteria
1. Relevant qualifications, clinical experience and/or knowledge in speech pathology with specific expertise in improving communication skills in young people using an array of research-based interventions.
2. Demonstrate the ability to deliver high quality speech therapy and communication programs for students who require additional speech therapy support, including the capacity to apply highly developed assessment, conceptual and analytical skills.
3. High level organisational, communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult with and work with other professionals in providing services to students with complex needs and challenging behaviour.
4. Demonstrate the ability to design and deliver a comprehensive speech therapy support and intervention program in a school with implementation supported by teachers, Education Support staff, parents and relevant professionals, including providing specialist advice on appropriate intervention strategies in order to meet student needs.
5. Demonstrate the ability to participate in and contribute to a collaborative team environment, developing supportive professional working relationships with staff, students, parents and carers, and providing advice and guidance to all involved.
Role
1. Supporting the development and improving communication skills in young people using an array of research-based interventions across the College.
2. Working collaboratively to implement programs for students deemed 'At Risk'.
3. Conducting language and speech assessments, analyse results and implement recommendations to support students.
4. Providing 1:1 and group sessions for students dealing with language or speech issues/concerns.
5. Communicating with families to continue supporting their child with any recommendations to improve their language and speech development.
The Speech Therapist works under the direction of the Director of Student Services.
Responsibilities
* Provide high quality case management and support to students.
* Undertake individual and/or group counselling and therapeutic interventions with students to assist them in enhancing their capacity to self-manage their social, emotional and educational needs.
* Keep thorough and extensive case notes to create transparency and accountability.
* Where appropriate, contribute to whole school, year level and small group programs.
* Develop and implement DET and College procedures and policies to support and foster the wellbeing of students.
* Establish and maintain links with Student Support Services, school networks and relevant support agencies with a view to optimising service provision to students.
