About The Role
The CFA vegetation management program aims to reduce the risk and severity of bushfires through fuel management and building capacity and capability of volunteers, staff and the community. As the Vegetation Management Support Officer located in Seymour (District 12) or Shepparton (District 22), you will take responsibility for the following:
* Support the District Vegetation Management Officer (VMO) to achieve CFA's fuel management objectives by planning, mapping and reporting treatments, facilitating resourcing, accurate communication of information and problem solving.
* Liaise with CFA operational staff, brigades and broader Vegetation Management teams on Fuel Management activities and emerging tools/technologies.
* Liaise with Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) to facilitate resourcing to planned burns to achieve mutual goals through pre-planning, accurate communication of information and maintaining expectations of both agencies.
* Support training requirements for fuel management by liaising with CFA members and FFMVic, including by the collection of field evidence.
* Advocate for CFA participation in cross tenure, strategic and community led planned fuel management activities with an emphasis on a risk–based, tenure blind approach.
* Assist in the collection and maintenance of reporting information for fuel management and other treatment works within the district.
* Support investigation into new fuel management approaches and techniques, including Traditional Owner and ecologically focused burns.
* Assist with other relevant and appropriate reporting tasks as required by the Vegetation Management Coordinator or Manager Community Safety.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
* A sound understanding of Fuel Management Treatments and Planned Burning, including resource requirements, and the ability to plan and coordinate the movement of resources on time to correct destination.
* Knowledge of CFA District Brigade networks, membership, and travel times.
* Ability to compile information required for the development of Treatment Plans and assist the District Vegetation Management Officer in the performance of their duties.
* Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to show strong attention to detail.
* Good problem-solving skills, and ability to forge and maintain productive inter-agency relationships.
* Strong working knowledge of IT including Microsoft products, mapping tools and the ability to maintain database programs.
