We are currently seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to be based out of our Fairfield Depot in Melbourne or the Geelong Depot.
As a Site Supervisor of the Maintenance team, you are an integral part of our long-term success and the crucial link between the Maintenance Manager and our Crew. You will assist the Manager with running the site, planning ahead and keeping the Crew on track.
You love to work outdoors and get your hands dirty: preparing soil, laying jute and planting plants will be the main tasks for construction then you will also conduct the maintenance of remnant native bushland, constructed wetlands and newly built native landscapes all around the Melbourne and Geelong region. You have a motivating attitude, you are keen to help your crew members and project managers to construct and maintain our WSUD wetland and revegetation projects.
As with most outdoor work, we are subject to all extremities of the weather, in winter and in summer. As such, it is important to be able to flourish within the occasionally challenging conditions that our environment provides. You will work in a team setting, so working with others and demonstrating effective communication is crucial to the application of tasks throughout the day.
The health and safety of our crew is most important, so understanding and following instructions and our procedures and policies are a basic requirement, at every time of day and every day of the year. You contribute to create a positive atmosphere for all our employees while maintaining a solid pace and a task-oriented focus on site. Notifiable injuries/incidents are required to be reported to Victorian Worksafe via our organisation.
Your Responsibility Supervise and ensure crew members are performing work tasks in a safe and professional mannerLead and direct crew members by example, we expect all of our site supervisors to be on the ground working with the crew to achieve targets. Teach and explain work tasks, practices and processes clearly through practical examples onsiteSupport the Maintenance Manager in meetings and administrative tasks as requiredReport and update the Maintenance Manager of progress and any safety concernsThink and plan ahead. Stay ahead of the crew so works can continue without delayWork cooperatively and collaboratively in a team environment, communicate clearly and ask questions when clarification is requiredFollow work task instructions from the Maintenance Managers and Management. This might include but is not limited to: work task safety, work tasks procedures, machinery use and maintenance, pre-startsEnsure all work tasks are performed in a safe manner and to a professional standardEnsure team's equipment and vehicles are maintained in a safe and good condition and professional servicing and repairs are performed in a timely manner.Behave to the standards set by your leaders. This might include but is not limited to: Uniform and PPE compliance, incident reportingTake part, actively participate in and run the fortnightly toolbox meetingsRegularly submit improvement suggestionsApproving timesheets at the end of each daySelection Criteria To be successful in this role, you need to bring these characteristics and qualifications to the job:
Preferred: Demonstrated experience in environmental tasks such as, but not limited to: revegetation works, planting, hand weeding, brush cutting, landscaping, and chainsaw work.Herbicide application, backpack and target weed control.Ability to identify indigenous and exotic flora species.Industry-related license and certification e.g: Chem Cert (ACUP), Chainsaw.Knowledge and experience working with native plants.No pre-existing injuries that will impede work, and or likely be exacerbated by physical work.Required: 2 years' experience managing crews, ideally experience in landscape or construction projectsCommitted to a safe work environment, willing to help to improve safe work measuresGood organisational skills, goal-orientated with efficient work attitudeBasic computer skills and written communication skillsAbility to explain and instruct in a clear, concise and patient mannerDriver's licence and ideally own vehicle.Construction White Card required.A genuine interest in native plants and landscapes.Practical work experience, manual labour.Willing to learn and adapt.Desire to work outdoors all year round.Ability to motivate your crew and yourself.Respectful and professional behaviour, appreciating individual differences.Appreciation for diversity and inclusion.Personal commitment to our organisation, our clients and our work.How to apply:
