The Role We are looking for a Manager to join our Melbourne Talent Management (TM) team. The Manager will: work collaboratively with associates, leadership teams and professionals across the business and specifically within the Melbourne office to deliver value added service, aligned with strategic direction, vision and values of the office and Firm. act as a senior business advisor providing high-quality business partnering service on all people related issues to the leadership of the firm, practice group leaders, partners and PBS Directors and their respective teams. act as an employee champion and change agent; assess and anticipate people-related needs; communicate needs proactively with our People team and business management and develop integrated solutions; maintain an effective level of business knowledge about the Australian office and Firm, its strategic plans, its culture and its competition. The role is highly collaborative and will involve supervision of another TM professional and close liaison with the Director of Talent Management and all members of the TM and People team in Australia. Main Responsibilities Business Partner: for the Australian office to understand the strategic and operational needs in relation to the people. Planning and management: partnering with leadership teams and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity, retention, workforce planning and succession planning, identify training and individual executive coaching needs. Consultation with supervising partners and managers to provide day-to-day performance management guidance or human resource advice (e.g. coaching, counselling, career development, disciplinary actions). Recruitment: determine needs, drive the recruitment process, develop pipelines, liaise with Recruitment team during planning and offer and on-boarding processes. Mobility: Assist with mobility assignments and serve as local point of contact for incoming and outgoing mobility. Performance Management: manage associate and business professionals performance management processes, e.g. annual evaluation and promotion processes. Coordinate and deliver to practice groups and Professional Business Services teams the annual salary review and high performance bonus programs. Career Development: consult as needed on lawyer and business professional programs in partnership with Australia Leadership and Learning team. Staff Engagement: actively consult with practice groups and Professional Business Services teams to monitor staff engagement and culture. Managing organisational change programs including but not limited to strategic planning, communication strategy to partnership, industrial process impact on staff, impact on service being provided to the business by the team. Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues and conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations. Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements and related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance; seek guidance from the Employment team as needed/required. Provide human resource policy guidance and interpretation. Develop contract terms for new hires, promotions, and transfers and manage exit processes as per Firm Guidelines. Lead and manage TM professional staff. Collaborate and work closely with the other TM Consultants and TM Managers (nationally) to ensure consistency and information-sharing across practice groups. Analyse trends and metrics in partnership with the People team to develop solutions, programs and policies. Required skills and experience Bachelor’s degree focusing on Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Organizational Development, Management, or other related areas; professional human resources certification preferred. Extensive experience in HR/Talent Management, preferably in a professional services environment. Strong knowledge of HR functional disciplines (employee relations, staffing, compensation, organizational development, training, and employee development). Knowledge of Australian Employment legislation including but not limited to the Fair Work Act and the Legal Services Award. Experience working across multiple locations and jurisdictions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluent written and spoken English is required. Demonstrated ability to solve problems and drive results with a sense of urgency in setting strategies and executing against the objectives. Proven ability to influence, interact and consult with senior leaders, strong collaboration skills and effective stakeholder management. Strong coaching, counselling, business acumen, and overall communication skills. High level of discretion, diplomacy and a commitment to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.
