Our client is a dynamic and innovative company specialising in product development, offering cutting-edge solutions to clients in a variety of industries. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Design Engineer to join the Research & Development team, located close to Parramatta in NSW. This is a full-time – Contract to Permanent role.
Position Overview
As a Design Engineer, you will provide electronic and electrical design expertise to new product development and existing product improvement projects. You will be responsible for developing system designs, interface specifications, embedded software, and ensuring all designs comply with industry standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development of electronic and electrical system designs for new and existing products.
* Develop and interpret requirements specifications and system breakdowns.
* Produce technical documentation, including design, installation, and operational guides.
* Develop embedded software systems according to customer requirements.
* Create electronic hardware designs using Altium and produce PCB layouts (2-layer/multilayer).
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and quality project delivery from concept to mass production.
* Assist with NATA Optical Lab support, testing, and report generation.
* Write test plans, procedures, and maintain compliance with ISO9001 and AS/NZS 17025 standards.
* Conduct fault diagnosis and system performance analysis.
* Adhere to company OH&S and environmental policies.
Qualifications and Skills
* Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronics Engineering or related field.
* Strong understanding of digital and analogue electronics.
* Proficiency in embedded microprocessor systems and software programming (Ansi-C, C++, Assembler preferred).
* Experience in PCB design and schematic capture (Altium preferred).
* CAD drawing expertise (AutoCAD preferred) with 2D and 3D drafting skills.
* Experience working in an ISO-9000/9001 environment.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to produce clear technical documentation.
* Strong team ethic, with the ability to work independently and meet critical project deadlines.
* Knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, and USB protocols (desirable but not essential).
* Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally if required.
