The role
The Executive Healthy Places Planner role was created in response to Canterbury-Bankstown’s rapid urbanisation, demographic changes, and evolving lifestyles.
With a growing population, the role focuses on integrating health-centred urban planning, design and placemaking to ensure residents and visitors remain healthy and protected.
In this role you will lead efforts to embed health principles into CBCity’s development and oversee the Healthy Places partnership between Council, South West Sydney Local Health District [SWSLHD] and Sydney Local Health District [SLHD] – working together to shape a healthier, more resilient future for the community.
This opportunity will be offered on a temporary part-time basis (28 hours per week) for 12 months.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
* Develop an evidence-based healthy places and built environment framework.
* Contribute to planning design controls to ensure they promote healthy placemaking and walkability.
* Provide health-focused reviews of State Significant applications, development applications, and planning proposals.
* Assess Place Plans and Master Plans for adherence to healthy placemaking principles and recommend improvements.
* Mentor cross-sector partners and staff on healthy urban planning and track partnership outcomes.
* Promote knowledge sharing and health policy development across Council, especially in transport planning.
* Contribute to the development of Health Precincts around Bankstown and Canterbury Hospitals.

You will have:
* Tertiary qualifications in urban planning, design, architecture, or a related field, with substantial experience in strategic planning for local or state government.
* A deep understanding of how urban planning and design can prevent chronic diseases and enhance public health.
* Demonstrated capability to oversee multiple projects, negotiate agreements, and shape senior-level policy.
* Flexibility to collaborate with Canterbury-Bankstown, SWSLHD and the Sydney LHD, and travel to key stakeholders as needed.
* The ability to work autonomously, set strategic direction, and deliver results.
* Expertise in managing competing priorities, tracking progress, and assessing outcomes.
* Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
* Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
The salary range for this opportunity starts at $111,988 (Grade I, Step 1) pro rata + 11.5% super. This opportunity will be offered on a temporary part-time basis (28 hours per week) for 12 months. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
