Eurofins Environment Testing Australia is an Environmental testing network of fully accredited laboratories. With a staff of over 200 our laboratories are located in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Client Service Offices located in Adelaide, Darwin, Newcastle and Wollongong. We also operate field sampling services out of Melbourne and Sydney. We specialise in all areas of Environmental analysis, including Contaminated Soil, Sludge, Sediments, Leachate, Soil Vapour, Trade Waste Effluents, Sewage Effluents, Stack Emissions, Work Place Air, Ambient Air, Dust, Drinking Water, Surface Water run off, River & Stream Monitoring, Seawater, and Groundwater.
Job Description

The Occupational Hygiene Technician is primarily a laboratory based role, however may also include a field work component for the right candidate. Laboratory analysis in the Hygiene Laboratory includes respirable and inhalable dusts, welding fumes, diesel particulate matter and respirable crystalline silica. Laboratory analysis in the Hazardous Materials laboratory includes asbestos identification in building materials and soils, and airborne fibre counting. Additionally, assisting the laboratory function by ensuring all samples are prepared and analysed in a timely manner while assisting with various other laboratory duties, to achieve operational, customer and quality requirements. Previous laboratory experience will be well regarded, however extensive training will be provided to the right candidate.
Reporting to the Supervisor, this role will be accountable for the following but not limited to:
* Preparing samples for analysis in accordance with sample/analysis requirements and preparation methods.
* Performing routine analysis, validations and project work in an efficient and effective manner.
* Analysis of respirable fibre counting, asbestos identification, inhalable and respirable dust (and associated airborne workplace contaminants), and diesel particulate analysis. Any field work component would support these analytical techniques.
* Ensuring external and internal clients’ requirements are met / exceeded.
* Ensuring efficient utilisation of laboratory materials.
* Operating, calibrating and maintaining equipment/instruments as required.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have:
* Certificate / Diploma in Laboratory Techniques; or other relevant science based tertiary education; or significant field or laboratory experience.
* Experience in a commercial laboratory will be an advantage.
* Experience with field work and associated record keeping will be an advantage.
* A proven ability to learn quickly and work under minimal supervision.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to structure thoughts deliberately, logically and directly.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
* Excellent technical skills.
* Good time management skills.
Extensive on the job training will be provided on regarding in-house analytical techniques, along with the use of our systems and programs.
