The Position We are seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Head of Department – General Medicine position in Hobart, Tasmania. We are on the lookout for an experienced and enthusiastic Staff Specialist passionate about practicing holistic general medicine, leading and mentoring medical staff, and contributing to quality improvement in a growing general medicine department. Permanent full-time and part-time day work (with on-call) positions, working up to 76 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible. Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant/s Health Service You will be based in Tasmania’s largest hospital and major referral centre. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH collaborates with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. All services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community. General medicine is the largest inpatient department in the hospital with excellent subspecialty support and opportunities for clinicians to be involved in research, clinical redesign, and quality improvement. Staff specialists are actively involved in the training of basic and advanced physician trainees and the supervision of international medical graduates. Essential Criteria Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in General and Acute Medicine. Contribute to the provision of high-quality inpatient and outpatient care to public and private patients the hospital in General Medicine. Contribute to the Department of General Medicine’s afterhours and weekend roster. Provide professional leadership to medical, nursing, and allied health staff and foster interdisciplinary teamwork. Be actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, as well as trainee and IMG supervision and mentoring Be involved in research and undertake quality improvement activities. Actively support and participate in service development to improve current services and develop new services in the Department of General Medicine. The Package Medical Practitioners (Public Sector Award): A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority. Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $210,000 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $288,000 with further salary increments available. Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $291,472 - $301,349 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award. In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: Management allowance, 10% of Base Salary, pro rata Allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $27,535 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year). Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,000 per annum pro rata. On call allowance 8% of Base Salary. Superannuation of 11%. All other allowances as per current Awa\ Subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.
