Position Objective
The overall role of the Fostering and Permanency Assessor is to Recruit and Assess potential Foster Carers and provide Initial and Ongoing Training for NSW and VIC.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Training
* Coordinate and present “Shared Lives” training to potential foster and kinship carers.
* Collate training evaluations and present summary report to Manager Foster Care Assessment & Training following Shared Lives Training.
Assessment and Reporting
* Conduct General Foster Care, Kinship and Guardianship assessments using the Step by Step assessment tools.
* Arrange and conduct assessment interviews for potential foster carers and kinship carers; measuring their suitability to provide out of home care in line with ACWA standards utilising the Step by Step Training and Assessment Tools.
* Collaborate with external stakeholders including Department of Communities and Justice.
* Facilitate completion of probity checks including Housing Inspection, National Police Checks, verify Working with Children Checks and Medicals for applicants.
* Produce comprehensive assessment reports using analytical skills to inform recommendations.
* Conduct thorough and robust assessments of carer applicants in a timely manner.
* Compile and create accurate reports as regulated by legislation, Office of Children’s Guardian and Department of Communities and Justice requirements.
* Conduct the signing off process for carers including the preparation of all supporting documentation and presentations.
* Prepare and present carer profiles to management including written reports.
Departmental Planning & Administration
* Attendance and participation in weekly meetings and Annual General meeting.
* Participate in the development and review of departmental program policies.
* Maintain regular correspondence with current and potential foster carers via telephone, teams, email and mail.
* Ensure carer files are maintained, accurate and up-to-date.
* Identify and communicate any foster carer issues to Manager Foster Care Assessment and Training.
* Organise and coordinate foster care events and functions.
* Maintain and update initial enquiry database, carer database, training database, and Working With Children Check applications records.
Essential Criteria
* Diploma level qualification in social work, psychology, social sciences, community services, education, health, early childhood, criminology, policing or similar.
* Understanding of and experience in the field of casework, training PSSP, child protection and Foster Care.
* Step by Step accreditation, or willingness to become a Step by Step assessor.
* Well-developed analytical and organisational skills
* High level communication skills including the ability to interview, assess and train candidates.
* Extensive experience in Microsoft Office Applications.
* Driver’s License and Comprehensive Insurance on primary vehicle used for work purposes.
* Willingness to work flexible hours and travel to meet organisational needs.

o Willingness to participate in pre-employment medical checks
o Two professional references
o Willingness to participate in a Disqualified Carer’s Check
