About Our Role
Simplot is committed to developing the next generation of skilled tradespeople and prides itself on providing a supportive working & learning environment. As part of our 2025 apprenticeship programme, we are seeking highly motivated applicants for an exciting and unique opportunity in the role of Apprentice Maintenance Electrician.
Commencing in January 2025, this programme will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to learn a skilled maintenance trade and to work with a unique range of equipment in our modern food production facility at Simplot Kelso. Upon successful completion of this 4 year apprenticeship, the Apprentice will obtain a nationally recognised qualification (Cert III Electrotechnology).
Simplot Kelso is our seafood and snacking processing plant, producing 75 SKUs for the retail and foodservice market under the Birds Eye, I&J and Captain's Catch brands whilst employing around 100 people.
With base rates in excess of the applicable award, and Simplot providing the successful candidate with a tool kit as a gesture of welcome - we ensure our apprentices are set up for success from day one!
What You Will Do
Working as part of our highly skilled Maintenance Electrical team on a Monday-Friday day shift roster – this apprenticeship will focus on all facets of the electrotechnology trade within a busy FMCG environment. Duties will include (but are not limited to):
9. Take part in safety initiatives to achieve a 100% commitment to safety, health and wellbeing in the workplace
10. Learn industry best practice for both preventative maintenance & breakdown of electrical equipment and systems
11. Problem solving & fault finding
12. Use of CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems) incl. work orders / data entry / stores lookups
13. Process automation and instrumentation
14. Interact with Production and wider Engineering teams
15. Attend mandatory blocks of TAFE for the duration of the apprenticeship (located in Orange)
16. Contribute towards continuous improvement initiatives
About You
17. 100% commitment to health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace
18. Ideally you will have successfully completed a school based electrical module e.g. Cert II Electrotechnology
19. Possess a genuine interest in learning the electrical trade
20. Demonstrated problem solving skills with a hands-on approach
21. Possess strong literacy & numeracy skillset
22. Intermediate IT skills with regards to Windows based operating system
23. Ability to successfully complete pre-selection aptitude testing as part of selection activities
24. Hold Australian citizenship or possess permanent residency (we are unable to consider those candidates with a temporary visa)
25. Ability to commence full-time employment in mid-Jan 2025
26. Possess a driver's licence (or hold your Learners Permit with a look to obtaining P plates in the near future)
27. Demonstrate superior communication skills with the ability to interact with a wide variety of people and cultures
28. Ability to commit to a 4 year apprenticeship
29. Willingness to undertake a pre-employment medical assessment (incl. urine based drug & alcohol screen)
