Role description: Off the back of growing demand in our transport team, we are looking for an Associate Technical Director/Senior Design Manager with highways and roads industry experience to provide leadership across multiple complex inter-disciplinary projects. Role accountabilities:
1. Leads multi-disciplinary projects, providing technical leadership to inspire direction and delivery.
2. To drive optimal and high-quality design decisions made through promoting a culture of collaboration, innovation, and creativity across the whole delivery team.
3. To use interpersonal and influencing skills to support successful negotiation outcomes.
4. Manage the day to day client technical liaison at project level, and representation of client priorities (within scope and agreed program constraints) to the delivery team.
5. Manage the challenges associated with the complexities and varieties of the project components and have the ability to find solutions where others see problems.
6. Monitor, review and advise on the content and quality of designs to ensure the project meets customers requirements and expectations.
7. Monitor and review the design scope to ensure the deliverables meet the appropriateness of the design brief, technical specifications, and quality to ensure adherence to project outcomes and performance requirements.
8. Ensure safety has been addressed through all phases including design, construction, operation, decommissioning and disposal.
9. Ensure design risks and issues are identified, monitored, and communicated throughout the developing design phases.
10. Responsible for the delivery of the design following the agreed program.
11. Develop and implement Design Management Plans for implementation by the design teams.
12. Responsible for identifying and managing project resource requirements.
13. Chairing design coordination meetings.
14. Manage design scope, change, and implementation of Variations to the design delivery.
15. Identify and implement the legal aspects associated with the execution of the delivery of works. (Ensure the design team is aware of the rules associated with the delivery of the works.)
Qualifications & Experience:
First and foremost, you share our passion for improving quality of life. You are a seasoned design manager with extensive experience in the transportation infrastructure market and come to us with:
16. Relevant engineering degree with Chartered status or equivalent professional accreditation;
17. Confident in leading multidisciplinary design teams for highways and road projects within a design and engineering consultancy environment;
18. Demonstrated experience delivering complex road infrastructure projects.
19. Well-developed technical and commercial skills, with a sound knowledge of the industry and a demonstrated ability in securing opportunities; and
20. Excellent communication skills and strong stakeholder management experience and the ability to build credible, collaborative but influential relationships both internally and externally.
