About the role:
The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) within the Infection Prevention Service provides expert clinical consultancy across the Hunter New England Local Health District and external state agencies. The role focuses on ensuring excellence in infection prevention and control, safeguarding patients, staff, and visitors. The CNC will offer guidance, education, and support on best practices, develop policies, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. Travel will be required as part of this role.
We are looking for a highly organised and proactive individual with excellent communication and time management skills. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, initiative, and the ability to prioritise effectively. While experience in infection control is preferred, a willingness to learn is essential. The successful applicant will receive comprehensive orientation, ongoing training, and access to professional development opportunities, supported by the infection control team, Nurse Manager, Epidemiologist, and Clinical Director.
Where you’ll be working:
The Infection Prevention Service is a district team that looks after the Greater Newcastle Area, Lower Hunter, Lower Mid North, Hunter Valley, Peel, MEHI and Tableland Sectors. Our team consists of a Medical Director, Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse Consultants, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Epidemiologist, and an Executive Assistant. The Executive team are located in Newcastle, John Hunter Hospital Innovation Precinct. The successful applicant will be working from the John Hunter Innovation Precinct.
Requirements:
* Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
* Eligible to drive in NSW and willing to travel for work purposes.
