Visit us here.About Your RoleThe Stroke Nurse Practitioner/Transitional Stroke Nurse Practitioner is a district role based as part of the neurology / acute stroke team.
The Stroke T/NP will work to improve continuity of care from the Emergency Department through to inpatient units and onto outpatient clinics across the LHD.
The Stroke T/NP candidate will play a key senior role in the multidisciplinary neurology / acute stroke management team.A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse educated and authorised to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role.
The NP role includes the assessment and management of patients using nursing knowledge and skills and may include but is not limited to initiation of diagnostic investigations, prescribing of medications and direct referral of patients to other health care professionals.The NP role is grounded in the nursing profession's values, knowledge, theories and practice and provides innovative and flexible health care delivery that complements other health care providers.The Nurse Practitioner is educated and endorsed to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role.
The NP role includes assessment and management using nursing knowledge and skills.The role may include, but is not limited to, the direct referral of patients to other health care professionals, prescribing medications and initiating and interpreting diagnostic investigations.The authorising legislation for the use, possession, supply, and prescription of medications by NPs in NSW is the Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Act 1966 and the Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Regulation 2008.
Regulation of NPs is in accordance with the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (NSW) No 86a.
