This position provides corrective and preventative maintenance of main plant and equipment such as boilers, medical air compressors, suction plant and other related equipment that enables the hospital to perform its core service in medical services to the public. You will be performing general fitting and machining work including welding, maintaining and repairing hospital furniture and fittings. hospital beds and wheel chairs. To be successful in this appointment you will need a boiler ticket or the ability to obtain one and perform daily boiler checks, as well as daily checks on medical gas, oxygen plant, suction plant and all other associated plant and equipment. You will be expected to participate in the provision of an afterhours on call emergency maintenance roster.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine (except for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine which is approved by the TGA as a single dose primary course). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form – IM011 form).
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.
Selection criteria to be addressed :
1. Current trade qualifications as a Mechanical Tradesperson with proven fitting, machining and welding experience in a maintenance environment, experience with steam boilers and related plant.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of current WHS Act and relevant regulations, as well as knowledge of current relevant Australian Standards.
3. Demonstrated experience and ability to perform fitting and machining work and associated physical/manual labouring tasks in a safe manner on varied and complex hospital plant and equipment.
4. Possess Steam Boiler certification, or the ability and willingness to obtain and also perform routine boiler checks, medical gas, oxygen plant, suction plant and other Hospital plant and equipment checks.
5. Availability to be on an afterhours call roster and to attend works at the NBMLHD after hours when called upon.
6. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and must be able to take oral and written direction from the maintenance management and maintain a co-operative working relationship with management, other trades staff and hospital staff and maintain the Health code of conduct.
7. Valid current Drivers Licence and be able to travel within the NBMLHD as directed.
8. Basic computer skills in the use of Internet, email and Building management systems.
