The Laboratory Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation and efficiency of our Food Laboratory. This position will work closely with colleagues across the Food and Pharmaceutical business to facilitate the delivery of company objectives. Responsibilities include managing the daily needs of the Scoresby Laboratory, including safety, training, equipment supply and maintenance, logistics and inventory management. With a focus on operational excellence and customer satisfaction, the Laboratory Supervisor ensures that the laboratory maintains high standards in both technical and administrative functions. Key qualifications include a science-related degree in chemistry, extensive years of laboratory experience with at least 3 years in a management/supervisory role and success in managing laboratory teams, and strong communication and problem-solving skills.The day to dayThe Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for:Maintaining Quality standardsManaging employee relations, performance and recruitment requirementsIdentifying, coordinating and monitoring training and developmentManaging workflow, productivity and efficiencyConduct complex Laboratory testing proceduresIdentifying improvement opportunities to deliver operational efficiency and improve production costs.The EssentialsThe successful applicant will possess the following skills and abilities:Degree in Chemistry or similar disciplineDemonstrated experience in a leadership role in a similar or related industryConfident communicator with ability to influence authenticallyEnable and empower direct reports to grow, facilitate teamwork, encourage autonomy and make considered decisions.Strong communication skillsStrong organisational, time management and problem-solving skillsExcellent productivity, multi-tasking capability; able to maintain productivity requirements under pressure or during peak times.Relevant experience in Food testingWorking at ALSOur people drive our success at ALS.
