Position Overview:
The Project Advisor / WHS Specialist role will sit across the department, providing program development and business as usual (BAU) support across three project streams and 16 projects, and will report to the Project Manager - Facilities.
The scope of work and key accountabilities for the WHS Specialist includes, but is not limited to:
* Collaborate on the development of the WHS program of work for Marine Rescue Queensland to assist with achieving program objectives, including ensuring QPS's responsibilities and compliance for WHS considerations are met.
* Working constructively with Program staff to ensure work is delivered cohesively and efficiently.
* Produce reports to communicate effectively with stakeholders (and governance forums) regarding status of work, issues, risks etc. This includes developing reports to communicate specific WHS considerations.
* Where necessary, work with contractors and/or oversight contractor deliverables to ensure WHS considerations are appropriately acquitted. This may include inspections and report reviews etc.
* Take a collaborative role in advising and implementing a WHS Management System for Marine Rescue Queensland in line with QPS policies and procedures.
* Provide advice and identify opportunities, in a WHS context, for the Program to consider achieving benefits more effectively.
* Work cohesively with internal and external stakeholders, including volunteers and the MRIP / QPS Workplace Health and Safety teams.
* Provide support for business as usual (BAU) work at units and MRQ head office by conducting safety inspections, audits, risk assessments and supporting investigations.
* Conduct WHS training / orientations and mentoring stakeholders about MRQ safe systems of work, risk mangement and WHS legislation.
You'll be successful in this role if you can bring:
* 5+ years' experience in implementing WHS frameworks, including conducting WHS audits/inspections and investigations.
* Extensive experience in WHS regulations and practices
* Extensive experience with WHS risk management
* Tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant field and industry specific certifications would be well regarded.
* Whilst not mandatory, experience in project management/coordination and working with volunteers would be well regarded.
Whilst not mandatory, experience in the maritime industry would be well regarded.
