About the role:
Expressions of Interest are now being sought from medical graduates interested in Clinical Forensic Medicine Registrar positions for the following periods:
Semester 1 2025 Semester 2 2025 The VIFM Clinical Forensic Medicine registrars support our community by undertaking medical examinations of sexual assault victims and victims and offenders of physical violence, including victims of family violence.
Examinations are performed with respect for the humanity of our patients and attention to the best available evidence regarding forensic collection techniques.
The Forensic Medicine Registrar placement offers a great work-life balance and a friendly, non-hospital-based experience.
On this placement, you can expect to acquire practical, sought-after forensic medical skills that you will utilize throughout your career including:
Injury documentation and interpretation Clinical photography Sexual assault examinations Forensic evidence collection Medico-legal reports Ethical issues Supported Learning

The work of the VIFM can be described as a cycle of three parts:
Providing forensic medical and scientific services and tissue banking Learning from this work Researching and teaching VIFM offers a supported learning environment utilizing our academic programs in collaboration with the Department of Forensic Medicine, Monash University.
Selection Criteria:
The position of Forensic Medicine Registrar is accredited with the RACGP, ACEM, Faculty of Clinical Forensic Medicine RCPA and the Sexual Health Chapter of the RACP and offers a fantastic opportunity for trainees to try something unique and rewarding.
To be considered for the position, you will need:
MBBS or equivalent Demonstrated commitment to professional development and continuous improvement Understanding of privacy, confidentiality, security, and the principles of bioethics in the medico-legal context Good communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work in a team Ability to work across a wide range of sites and a rotating roster of day, afternoon, and night shifts including weekends Current Victorian Driver licence Current Police and Working with Children Checks (or ability to obtain) Please be aware that we will be conducting interviews for the positions during the EOI period.
