Cook Position
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Cook to join our culinary team. As a Cook in our partnered facilities, you will play a key role in ensuring the nutritional needs of residents are met with delicious and wholesome meals. You will collaborate with the facility's dietary team to plan menus, prepare meals, and maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals according to dietary requirements and menu plans, ensuring all standards are met.
* Serve meals at the appropriate temperature and in a timely manner.
* Assist with serving meals to residents, respecting their food preferences.
* Acknowledge and adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper storage and handling of food.
* Collaborate with dietary staff to develop menus that meet the nutritional needs and preferences of residents.
* Support the Food and Nutrition Manager in controlling food costs, waste, and ordering.
* Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including equipment and utensils.
* Participate in special events and catering as required.
Requirements:
* Successful completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting the requirements of the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act is required.
* Chef/Cook Certification from a recognized community college, preferably Red Seal, is preferred.
* A valid Food Handler's Certificate must be obtained and kept up to date.
* Institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality cooking experience is accepted.
* A Vulnerable Sector Check within 6 months is mandatory.
* Proof of COVID-19 vaccination in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care's Long-term care home COVID-19 immunization policy is required.
Essential Skills:
* A genuine interest in people, particularly the elderly, and a sensitivity to their needs.
* The ability to handle the physical aspects of the position, including lifting, standing, bending, and working safely by following established safety practices and procedures.
* Multitasking and completing routines within assigned schedules.
* Flexibility and adaptability within a team environment.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written in English).
