It is a teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania. General Medicine is the main inpatient medical unit at the Hospital. The General Medicine Units are based on one ward in a brand new block. Each team is supported by Allied Health specialists. The department has 12 Staff Specialists, and teams are organised into 4 Medical Units; each unit has its own Basic Training Registrar and Intern, and 2-3 consultants. There are now 9 Advanced Training positions in General Medicine, rotating through General Medicine and other sub-specialty positions such as stroke, respiratory medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology and nephrology. Head of Department – General Medicine position. You will have Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in General and Acute Medicine. You will have overall responsibility for the functioning of the department, directly reporting to the Clinical Director of Medical and Cancer Services. Requirements: FRACP. The Launceston General Hospital is a major training site for the University of Tasmania Clinical School. Teaching and research is encouraged and attendance at national and international meetings, as well as training and educational events, will be supported.
