The PositionAs the Director of Medicine, you will have overall responsibility for the management and operation of the medical department, while leading and coordinating multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will be a highly experienced physician with clinical expertise, academic abilities and professional qualities that facilitate excellent communication and collaborative relationships to work effectively within the medical discipline and with the Executive Director of Medical Services (EDMS), fellow directors, and colleagues across and outside NWHHS to ensure seamless service integration.The Director of Medicine has oversight for medical service delivery which includes the following elements:1. The Mount Isa Medical Ward (22 bed unit) admitting to General Medicine with 2 dedicated palliative care beds.2. General Medicine specialist outpatient clinics.3. Specialist outreach patient services to Mount Isa including Nephrology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Respiratory and Gastroenterology are managed through a combination of onsite and telehealth clinical delivery.4. Remote outreach to our communities occurs in high-volume specialties, in particular Nephrology and Cardiology/Rheumatic Heart Disease.5. A 10-chair on site Renal Unit and remote community dialysis in Doomadgee, Cloncurry and Mornington Island (under the governance of Townsville HHS)6. A 6-chair Cancer Care Unit (under the governance of Townsville HHS)7. A 5-bed open Intensive Care Unit/High Dependency Unit supported by both the Mount Isa Anaesthetics team for critical interventions and Townsville HHS intensivists.Health ServiceMount Isa Hospital is the main referral centre within the North West Hospital and Health Service. Our health service is geographically vast at 300,000sq km. Patients from NWHHS remote facilities across the north west region who require specialist treatment and care are primarily referred to the Mount Isa Base Hospital or to other major hospitals within Northern Queensland.There is a high burden of chronic disease within our population and we have mature relationships with sub-specialty providers who operate and provide care under agreements with adjacent health services. Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) A dual Fellowship in a relevant specialty will be highly regarded. Proof of qualification: Appointment to this position requires registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to commencement of clinical duties. Proof of Identify Documents: Candidates must provide certified copies of requested proof of identity documents for the purposes of General Criminal History and National Police Certificate checks. Licence to operate vehicle: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty. Travel: The position may require travel by commercial or charter plane and/or vehicle to other Hospital/s and/or Health Centre/s dependent on travel requirements ? Credentialing and Scope of Clinical Practice: The position requires the incumbent required to undergo the credentialing and scope of clinical practice process in accordance with NWHHS policy. Shift Work: The position may require the incumbent to be rostered outside of 'ordinary hours.
