Role: Lead System AdministratorRole type: Temporary, up to 2 yearsSalary: DCS clerk grade 9/10Location: Sydney with hybrid/flexible work optionsAbout the RoleAs part of Cyber Security NSW, the Capability and Development team work closely with internal and external stakeholders to implement solutions across a broad range of objectives.
Projects include the development of software related to incident management, data/information management, data processing/analysis, automation, and other areas in accordance with government environments and objectives.Reporting to the Manager of Capability and Development, the primary purpose of the Senior System Administrator will be to lead the system administration function by building and maintaining key infrastructure, creating security-conscious processes and reporting, and mentoring a team.Responsibilities will include:Provide and lead technical services for a range of applications on cloud technologies.Provide and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux infrastructure including administration, hardening, and image creation.Directly manage and mentor staff within the system administration function of the team.Develop standard operating procedures and processes for maintaining secure, robust platforms and support optimal service delivery.Assist the broader team in maintaining and developing systems architecture for new and existing platforms.Create and maintain detailed system documentation detailing baseline configuration and business-as-usual processes.Monitor and gather information to resolve issues and risks.Perform security audits and lead the maintenance and compliance of security certifications.About you:To be successful in this role you will have the following:7+ years' experience maintaining complex IT environments, infrastructure, and platforms.An understanding of the ACSC Information Security Manual (ISM) and practical experience of implementing and managing strategic and technical security controls.Strong IT cloud (AWS/GPC/Azure/etc) infrastructure, networking, and operations knowledge with end-to-end delivery (tertiary/industry certifications are highly desirable).Ability to interpret code, such as Python, in a security focused environment (desirable).Excellent interpersonal skills (written and verbal), with the ability to communicate, train and work with non-technical users.Must have Australian citizenship with (or willing and able to obtain and maintain) an NV1 security clearance or higher (Australian permanent residents or visa holders will not be accepted).Key Application ResponsesApplicants must submit:A one to two page covering letter which addresses the above responsibilities and includes a response to the following question: Describe a time where you have initially failed to solve an issue as a System Administrator.
