Job DescriptionJob OverviewOur Federal Government client is seeking a skilled Cyber Security Engineer to join the Cyber Operations team.
This role involves deploying, managing, and maintaining a Cyber Security Controls Framework aligned with ACSC Essential 8 (Maturity Level 3) and ISO27001:2022 standards.
You will play a critical role in enhancing security controls, supporting vulnerability management, and responding to security incidents.About the TeamThis team is responsible for protecting and securing critical systems by implementing best-practice cybersecurity controls.
The team focuses on continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and compliance while supporting a multi-year Cyber Uplift Program.Project OverviewThe role will support an initiative aimed at enhancing cybersecurity operations through improved threat detection, vulnerability management, and incident response capabilities.
You will contribute to both project-based activities and business-as-usual (BAU) security operations.Key ResponsibilitiesDeploy, tune, and maintain the Cyber Security Controls Framework in collaboration with operational teams.Ensure alignment with ACSC Essential 8 (Maturity Level 3) and ISO27001:2022 standards.Implement and manage security controls across various domains, including SIEM, SOAR, Continuous Compliance, Vulnerability Management, GRC, PAM, and MFA.Conduct vulnerability assessments using tools like Tenable and coordinate remediation efforts.Monitor security alerts and logs from cybersecurity tools and respond to security incidents.Support cybersecurity governance, risk management, and compliance (GRC) processes.Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors and regulatory bodies.Promote a culture of security awareness through training and best practices.Technical Skills & ExperienceStrong knowledge of security protocols, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.Experience with cybersecurity tools such as:SIEM (e.g., Splunk, LogRhythm)SOAR and GRC platforms (e.g., 6Clicks)Vulnerability management tools (e.g., Nessus, Tanium)PAM solutions (e.g., Secret Server)MFA solutionsExperience in deploying and managing cybersecurity controls in complex environments.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess security issues.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent are preferred but not mandatory.Job DetailsEstimated Start Date: ASAPInitial Contract Duration: January 2026 with 12 month extensionLocation: ACT, NSW, QLD, SA, TAS, VIC, WAWorking Arrangements: Hybrid (to be discussed with Hiring Manager)Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain BaselineInterested?
