Who we are
The Performance and Reporting Section supports the department to capture its core purpose and strategic priorities, and to measure its success in achieving that purpose. To support effective governance and accountability, the team works across the department to manage and deliver a range of strategic and operational planning and performance reporting documents, including the Corporate Plan, Annual report and business planning tools and templates. We ensure the department meets its obligations under the PGPA Act and the Commonwealth Performance Framework.
The Job
This is a position for an experienced customer-focused editor and writer who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where the focus is on helping authors produce clear and consistent high-quality print and online flagship products (e.g., annual report and corporate plan) that are accessible and meet user needs. Flexible work options will be considered. The Editor is required to work to tight deadlines, producing work of a high standard. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* liaising with members of the Performance and Reporting Section, and the department’s editing and design teams in the Communications and Media Branch
* preparing edited iterations of the annual report and corporate plan that meet departmental and Australian Government style and legal accessibility requirements
* formatting Word documents for online publication
* building customised Word templates for flagship products
* maintaining and updating style sheets, training tools and user tools for content contributors
* proofing flagship documents in Word, PDF and content management systems such as the Digital Annual Reporting Tool (DART)
* developing communication material and guidance for stakeholders and colleagues
* developing, implementing and maintaining a communications strategy for the Performance and Reporting section
* providing support to staff to ensure they have the writing and formatting skills to produce MS Word documents that meet the department’s accessibility, style, branding and publication requirements
* maintaining the Performance and Reporting helpdesk by advising staff on department style, branding, accessibility and other relevant editorial-related issues
* helping the Performance and Reporting team develop and maintain workflow systems.
Please note that the merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.
What are we looking for
Knowledge and Experience:
* Editing qualifications or equivalent experience.
* Proven technical understanding of voicing and ability to adapt language, tone and content to fit to a style guide.
* Proven proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe.
* Proven knowledge of accessibility requirements for MS Word documents and HTML.
* Knowledge or ability to understand Australian Government style requirements.
* Knowledge or ability to make accessible Word documents.
