Headquartered in Sydney with growing operations in Perth, Novalith is backed by global venture capital funds and the team has grown significantly in the last 12 months.As part of the next stage of its growth, Novalith is building a demonstration plant in Western Australia and is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager, reporting into the Chief Commercial Officer, based in Perth, to lead all commercial activities required to ensure an on-time, successful delivery of the project.Key responsibilities include:Establish procurement plans, procedures and systems that are “fit for purpose” for a start-up, delivering its first major project.Work with internal Legal function to develop Engineering Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) and Equipment Supply contract templates.Provide commercial review of tender responses and lead contract negotiations with successful EPCM(s) and equipment vendors.Negotiate other project commercial arrangements e.g. site lease, utilities (water, gas etc) and any other relevant State (WA) and Council requirements (e.g waste disposal).Lead procurement of feedstock and chemical reagents, including contract negotiations.Support the Chief Commercial Officer in negotiation of product qualification campaigns with strategic partners and negotiation of any government grant deeds, as required.During project implementation, lead contract review meetings to ensure commercial and contract administration issues comply with contract requirements, policies and procedures.Ensure project managers, engineers and all relevant project staff understand and comply with commercial requirements.Manage commercial issues, including major and minor contract disputes when delegated by the Executive Leadership Team.Assist Project Manager and other project team members, as needed in all commercial matters.Lead identification and qualification of scope changes and all subsequent negotiations.Undertake post-contract completion reviews and implement corrective actions.Ensure successful stakeholder engagement and people management and strong contract, commercial and financial risk management throughout the project lifecycle.You will:Be an established Contracts Manager or Commercial Manager looking to further your career in an impact role within a technology start-up environment.Have a clear drive to achieve quality commercial outcomes and have demonstrated success in a similar role - we are interested in your skill base and potential, not the size of your past projects.Provide commercial and contractual support on pre-contract and post-contract matters and issues to ensure successful financial outcomes are achieved by the project.Support both the delivery and commercial teams by providing advice on contractual issues and mentoring of team members on contractual issues and strategies.Provide commercial guidance on contract and risk management, including costings and programming strategies.Coach a passionate team of technical professionals, whilst also growing the team’s commercial capabilities.Ideal experience required:Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Law, Business or other associated disciplines.At least 7 years’ experience in procurement and/or contract administration gained in the chemical/process engineering industry, ideally as part of an equipment vendor team but relevant EPC or EPCM experience is also acceptable.3 years’ minimum experience in a commercial management role.Post graduate qualifications e.g. graduate certificate, graduate diploma in Commerce, Quantity Surveying, Business, Construction, Law or other associated disciplines are desirable.Advanced skills in project contract administration, general business administration and project management.Reporting and compliance with respect to commercial performance and legislation/ code to prevent potential business exposure.Understand scope of works for the project across different business units.Experience with all aspects of risk assessment and development of risk controls & actions involved in the delivery of projects.A can-do attitude with a passion to accelerate the transition to a sustainable and electrified future.Why join Novalith?Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.Opportunity to work with a talented team of entrepreneurs and innovators.Make a significant impact on the growth and success of a start-up company.Discounted private health insurance and retail shopping benefits, recognition programs, and more!Meaningful investment towards career development from internal and external providers.Opportunity to gain further lithium battery supply chain experience.We encourage applications from all backgrounds, communities, and abilities, and are committed to having a team that is made up of diverse skills, and experiences.
