The Mornington Shire Council provides a wide range of services to 23 islands of the Wellesly Group in the Gulf of Carpenteria, Queensland. Mornington Island is the largest island in the group with the township of Gununa, housing the majority of the population (approx. 1,100). Mornington island is located 125kms north-west Burketown, 200km west of Karumba and 444kms from Mt Isa and is serviced by regular commercial flights (Rex).
Mornington Shire Council delivers services such as: Council Administration, Housing, Waste Management, Municipal Services, Sports and Recreation, Water and Sewerage Maintenance, Civil Works, Mechanical Workshop and many more.
The Role:
A great opportunity in our Housing Division for a Building Supervisor to join the team. The Building Supervisor will report to the Manager Construction. Your duties will include but are not limited to:
* Supervise and administer Council’s contract with the Department of Housing and Public Works to ensure timely and efficient delivery of housing construction, maintenance and repairs, also ensuring Council complies with its contractual obligations under the Indigenous Employment Program.
* Assist to plan, coordinate and manage new builds, repairs and maintenance for all council staff housing.
* Assist to plan, coordinate and manage new constructions, repairs and maintenance for all council owned commercially leased premises.
* Supervision of Council carpenters, plumbers, concreters, painters, electricians, Apprentices and Trades Assistants to ensure appropriate allocation of personnel to scheduled works in a timely and efficient fashion.
* Ensure appropriate document control procedures for all Projects plans, specifications and records are maintained.
* Ensure project completion is achieved, providing adequate documentation for invoices to be raised for all services provided.
* Provide support to the Housing Manager to ensure Council accurate budget reporting for all housing projects is provided in a timely manner.
* Provide additional support to the Housing Division as required.
* Ensure Council’s Workplace Health & Safety Management System is implemented on supervised job sites.
About you:
To be considered for these roles you must be committed to safety in the workplace. You must also possess:
* Quality control experience
* Highly developed leadership and management skills within a civil construction environment.
* Highly developed Project management skills, including the ability to plan and deliver multiple projects across multiple teams of building tradesmen.
* Highly developed communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate across building tradesmen and a culturally diverse setting.
* Advanced time management skills, with the ability to problem solve, plan and prioritise critical factors.
* Sound financial management skills, able to prepare and manage divisional and discrete project budgets.
* Possession of a current QLD Driver’s Open License
* Simpro or other job management software (Desirable)
