Description Introduction We are currently seeking motivated and enthusiastic people to join our Port Botany Terminal team in the position of a casual or “supplementary” General Stevedore. You will start in an entry level role with an opportunity to move to a more permanent arrangement in future. You will receive generous remuneration including shift premiums and overtime. Our workforce is readily available 24/7 to provide our customers with seamless access to terminal facilities in Australia around the clock. In this role, you will be required to work shift work, across 7 days a week. You will be notified of your shifts 1 day in advance. You will be initially employed on a casual basis with no guarantee of shifts. As a General Stevedore you will be assisting in the loading and unloading of cargo being handled at Port Botany. You will work outdoors and perform the below main tasks Key Accountabilities As a General Stevedore you will be assisting in the loading and unloading of cargo being handled at Port Botany. You will work outdoors and perform the below main tasks: Lashing – This is the use of heavy rigging equipment to secure shipping containers to the deck of a ship. This is a physically demanding task. Operating heavy vehicles – Driving internal transfer vehicles (ITVs) to transport and move containers around the wharf. Driving light vehicles – Driving a manual, 24 seat light vehicle to transport employees around the terminal. Forklift operation - Forklifts are used to move shipping containers short distances within the yard and on and off trucks and rail carriages. A paid comprehensive induction and training program will be provided. Qualifications, Skills and Experience A current and valid full driver's licence (manual desirable); A current and valid forklift licence (or willing to obtain a licence prior to commencement); Demonstrated ability to work safely and as part of a team; Comfortable and able to work at heights; Physically capable to undertake heavy manual tasks; Experience driving a heavy vehicle (desirable) Experience operating heavy machinery (desirable); Experience in heavy industry such as warehousing, transport and logistics, construction, mining, or manufacturing.
